2002
was a roller coaster ride for our family. I had no idea in March of 2001
when Ken found me after 22 years that my life would change so much....
A
New Home
It
was Ken's thought that we would stay in his apartment for a year or two
and save for a house. That would have been fine if it hadn't been for the
fact that there was no place to plant a garden and
I
couldn't stand the thought of not being able to
get
out in the dirt for that long! Every Sunday I would scan the real estate
ads and point out a
few
places that I thought we should look at.
One
house kept popping up. After a month or
so
of hinting, I finally went to the real estate
office
and got a print out of the house information.
I
think more to get me to drop it than anything
else,
he agreed to look at it. I don't think that
Ken
was sold on the house right away. It was a mess! Trash everywhere and a
ton of work to be done. But when I walked through the yard and
saw
all that was there under the weeds and blackberries, and admired the huge
climbing rose
that
ran all along the garage and down the drive,
I
knew it was our house. After our offer was accepted in September, we spent
the next month
just
making the house livable. We were finally
able
to move in in November.
We
have added tons of color to our home. After spending years in homes with
white walls, the Beach Grass yellow of the living room and the wonderful
sage greens in the kitchen and master bedroom are a welcome change. There
is still much to be done, but we enjoy looking back at all of the before
pictures and look forward to many new projects! In the coming months we
will be adding a picture album so that others can see what a little hard
work and team work can accomplish!

There
is always a million things that need to be done here at Rose Haven, but
we plan on updating our newsletter monthly with news of our family and
other things we think might be of interest to you.
We

The
Wedding
It's
a story that almost sounds too good to be true and makes people smile when
you tell it. I was living alone with my son in central Oregon after divorcing
my husband of 15 years. Kenny was living alone on the Oregon Coast after
his
marriage
ended. One day, I checked my e-mail
and
there was an e-mail from him! He had found me on Classmates.com and just
wondered how I was. After several e-mails spent getting caught
up
on the last 22 years, I agreed to meet him in Sisters Oregon. I was a nervous
wreck. I had
been
a slender cheerleader when we dated and now here I was a full figured
mother of three
and
grandmother of two! I shouldn't have worried. When he got out of his truck,
turned and looked at me and said "you are so beautiful!" it was all
over! We were reunited in March of 2001, and
by
May, I had moved to be with him here on the coast. I have never regretted
taking the chance
on
this wonderful man.
We
were married here at Rose Haven this last May in front of our family and
friends. It was a very happy day and you could feel the spirit of love
and joy that surrounded us. What a wonderful way to start our life here!
I
never thought that my life could be so happy
and
complete. I found a wonderful hand
painted
sign that now hangs in our kitchen. It says "Never say Never". Words to
live by if
I've
ever heard them!
In
Memory...
Though
2002 was filled with many happy memories, June brought much sadness with
the untimely death of my father. I keep thinking how blessed we were that
he and Mom were here for the wedding just a few weeks before, and that
I was able to tell him happy Fathers Day and that I loved him just hours
before he passed away. He will be missed by many. |
